Sorry I Never Wrote You Back
But when you have nothing to say, the best practice is to stop talking. And while I’ve been hard at work on what can be most elegantly called “comics stuff”, there really hasn’t been a reason to put out a newsletter until this moment. So, after a much-needed break, I’m all filled up with words (some are BIG, too!) and I gotta spit ‘em out all over the internet.
So, what are we doing here?
Great question, so glad I asked.
I’ll be using this tiny soapbox to make semi-regular communications. The hope is to entertain you with reviews, articles, crowdfunding campaign round-ups, and (occasionally) re-issues of the original BLIND BOX short fiction pieces. (They deserve to bathe in the cold light of your screen again).
I’ll also urge you to check out my newly refreshed website, ianmondrick.com if only for the cool ‘portfolio’ feature. While you’re there, you can also buy digital copies of the TOMB Series, as well as a free download of WIN TREMENDOUS, a 10-page comic written by me and drawn & colored by Benjamin Æ Filby the co-creator of the aforementioned TOMB books.
MY NEIGHBOR NECROMANCER # 1-2
Rise from your grave! The all-star team is back with this poignant story of a young girl who must learn to raise the dead to save the world. If you’re new to the series, you can also dig up Issue 1 in this Kickstarter that runs until 10/3. Click here to start digging!
unSEEN/unHEARD: Disability & NeurodivergenceunSEEN/unHEARD: Disability & Neurodivergence is a 64-page, 12-story anthology that centers on what it’s like to live with a disability or be neurodivergent. It varies in genres, including fantasy, sci-fi, horror, slice of life, and romance. The editors, all of whom belong to the disability or neurodivergent communities, also care about intersectionality, so the anthology contains some 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC tales.Click here to visit the pre-launch page! |
THE IMMORTAL COIL #1
Launching his first project on Kickstarter in October, writer Luis Godoy II brings us a powerful comic about dealing with loss and family in a world that no longer experiences death. With art by Julio Suarez, letters by Micah Myers, additional covers by Marcus Jiminez, and script edits by yours truly, you’ve every reason to click here to follow Luis’s campaign on Kickstarter.
The men in suits who control everything I do tell me I need some sort of ‘Value Add’ to the newsletter. So in an effort to satisfy my professional obligations while performing as little work as possible, I present a recurring feature sure to appease our ravenous cultural zeitgeist. (Please feel free to bother me on social with your own takes using the “clean” template included).
Until I Type At You Again:
Thank you for your time, even if it’s just the three seconds it takes to scroll down and hit the UNSUBSCRIBE button.
It’s always been my preference to have more direct connections to those interested in my work, and I’ve always strived to make these emails as engaging as possible to hold up my end of the bargain.
So look for another one soon, and if you need to get a hold of me: I’m on twitter, a dozen different discord servers, and I live in a trash can on Sesame Street. I’m not hard to find.
